Whitehorse, YT
The S.S. Klondike is one of Whitehorse’s iconic historic attractions: a restored sternwheel riverboat that once carried freight and passengers along the Yukon River. Managed by Parks Canada, the site includes a visitor centre with exhibits, a small theatre showing riverboat films and interpretive panels about river navigation and Gold Rush-era transport. The vessel has undergone restoration work at times, and while interior access may be limited during projects, the grounds and interpretive resources still convey the significance of river travel to Yukon history.
When open, the sternwheeler offers an evocative glimpse into early 20th-century life on the river; even when restoration is underway visitors can enjoy the riverside setting, exhibits and seasonal programming. Check ahead for current access and special events.
