About Halifax Citadel National Historic Site
The Halifax Citadel is an iconic hilltop fortress that interprets Halifax’s military and colonial past with restored ramparts, barracks, and period rooms. Costumed guides, musket demonstrations, and daily rituals such as the noon gun bring the site to life for visitors of all ages.
Beyond the dramatic architecture, the Citadel’s elevated position provides one of the best vantage points for panoramic city and harbour views. Exhibits cover local defence history, veterans’ stories, and the evolution of the garrison through the 18th and 19th centuries.
